D.C. Police Chief Says Condit 'Difficult'

Police Chief Charles Ramsey issued some of his most critical and extensive comments to date about Rep. Gary Condit's cooperation with authorities investigating the disappearance of Chandra Levy... While the California Democrat has described himself as fully cooperative with police and the FBI, Ramsey made it clear that authorities have a different perspective....

"The fact that we've had to interview him four times [is really] the result of the fact that's it's been quite difficult to get information in a timely fashion that would really be helpful," Ramsey said.

It should be noted, however, that the cooperation of Condit's hair was instrumental in rescuing a small child from an abandoned mine shaft.

Archbishop Milingo Meets Wife And Leaves Her

[Rome] The Zambian archbishop scandalized the Vatican by marrying the Korean acupuncturist in a mass wedding ceremony organized by Rev Sun Myung Moon in May. The two met on Wednesday in a hotel a few streets away from the Vatican, where Milingo handed Sung a letter saying he sympathized with her suffering but that he had to return to the Church.

"My commitment to the life of the Church, including celibacy, does not allow me to be married," the 71-year-old archbishop wrote.

I wouldn't think divorce was a burden normally experienced by your everyday 71-year-old Roman Catholic Archbishop from Zambia married to a Korean acupuncturist by the Reverend Sun Myung Moon. I'd hate to see his future compromised by any hasty decisions.

Woman Survives Plunge; Commute Halted 3½ Hours

[Seattle] While the police tried to talk the woman down, motorists passing the scene in the northbound lanes began rubbernecking, almost causing accidents. That, coupled with the jeering and obscenities directed at the woman from passing motorists, caused police to close the northbound lanes as well for more than an hour.
In all fairness to the bloodthirsty commuters, just how were they to know this poor woman was in distress? The universal call for sympathy is, after all, to provoke a stranger into killing your dog by driving around with it on your lap and then rear-ending his black SUV.

Nude Man Discovered Standing Over Bed

[Lorain, OH] Parsells claims that he was looking for his girlfriend's house and was just simply in the wrong apartment. In 1998, Parsells was convicted of aggravated burglary and disorderly conduct for entering a home and then getting in bed with a 7-year-old girl. The 7-year-old's mother said that Parsells locked up the family's dog in another bedroom and got in the bed with her daughter and started kissing and touching the little girl.
Maybe this is just me, but if you're going to fondle and kiss a 7-year-old kid because you can't tell her from your girlfriend, it's probably past time to give up dating those miniature Japanese twins linked telepathically to Mothra. You just have to let the tiny girlfriends go.

Condit's Adult Children Resign One Day After Davis Criticism

[Sacramento, CA] Davis' remarks joined a barrage of negative reviews of two television interviews Condit gave last week. Leaders from Capitol Hill to Condit's home district in California's Central Valley said they were disappointed, and had expected Condit to apologize for failing to speak out sooner in the disappearance of Levy [24], with whom Condit admitted having [an affair.]

Chad Condit, 33, made $110,856 a year as Davis' Central Valley liaison, while 26-year-old Cadee Condit earned $52,644 as his special assistant, according to 2001 state salary records.

The real news story, of course, is that Chad and Cadee Condit bothered to submit a resignation letter at all, as opposed to just not showing up to work the next day.

Priest Charged With Exposure At Book Store

[Pittsburgh, PA] A Roman Catholic priest has been accused of exposing himself to an undercover police officer at an adult book store. Rev. George Swast was arrested Friday after allegedly exposing himself to the officer, who was investigating the store's private viewing booths.... Swast faces charges of open lewdness and indecent exposure.
If you find yourself heartbroken over the absence of "Playboy's Priests, Rabbis, and Imams" from the newsstands, at least it won't be from a shortage of consenting models. I guess until the market becomes a little less repressive, hot, voluptuous clergy will just have to wait by the phone for your call.

Rape Suspect Identified By Name Tag

A Clairton [PA] municipal employee has been charged with raping a woman after he apparently entered her home to fix a sewer problem, WTAE-TV reports. Police say Dean Maskin, 40, turned himself in after the woman identified him from a name tag he was wearing. Maskin has allegedly told police that he had sex with the victim because he thought she was a prostitute.
Is that really an excuse you can give the police? "It isn't rape because I thought I was shoplifting?"

War Vets Honored With Diplomas, Proms

In the past two years, thousands of World War II veterans have received diplomas and attended proms inspired by Operation Recognition, an Agawam, Massachusetts-based program to honor veterans who left school to go to war.
I guess if you've been waiting 60 years to attend your high school prom, you just don't give a damn who knows how long you've been waiting to have sex.

Man Claiming To Be Killer Arrested After Taunting Cops

The man said he was calling about an unsolved murder and claimed to have stabbed and killed a woman on July 2, 1996.

"I followed her from [the] Target store, from Lakeside Mall," the man said. "I followed her over there, and I just killed her, you know, I stabbed her. I just want to let you know that, that I'm on the loose again. Just [to] let you know, I'm back." Police tracked the call to a motel room in Denver where Muniz was staying with his girlfriend and her family. Muniz denied making the call, but several friends and relatives said the voice on the taped call to police was that of Muniz.

I guess membership in the Supervillain Legion of Doom hasn't carried the same prestige since Caller-ID™ has been cutting into that after-crime phone taunting.

Hooters To Fight Toy Yoda Lawsuit

[Panama City, FL] A spokesman for the owner of several local Hooters restaurants said the company will fight a former waitress' lawsuit alleging her employer promised her a Toyota but gave her a toy Yoda. Jodee Berry, 26, won a contest in early May to see who could sell the most beer in April at the Panama City Beach Hooters. The top-selling waitress from each restaurant in the area was entered into a drawing, and Berry's name was picked. She believed she'd won a new car.

She was blindfolded and led to the restaurant parking lot, but when the blindfold was removed, she found she was the winner of a toy Yoda -- the little green guy from the Star Wars movies.

You own several establishments where scantily clad women make money for you. In a contest to raise the expectations of your best money-earners, however, you derive pleasure from disappointing the chosen winner, humiliating her. Then instead of buying her a car, you choose to give the money to lawyers. Sounds like it's time to start thinking about changing the restaurant name from "Hooters" to "I Don't Know What My Penis Is For."

China Rejects U.S. Payment Offer For Plane-Collision Costs

Expressing "strong dissatisfaction," China rejected a U.S. offer of $34,000 to cover costs incurred after a U.S. Navy spy plane collided with a Chinese fighter jet and the American crew was detained... China had asked for $1 million for plane-related expenses and lodging for the 24-member crew.
What kind of crazy, mixed-up world do we live in, when a totalitarian government can't release hostages in good faith without getting short-changed on ransom? All the uncertainty the capitalistic markets adopt -- it's inhumane.

Deputies Sue Diabetic Driver They Beat After Traffic Stop

Two Frederick County [VA] sheriff's deputies are suing a diabetic man they beat after a traffic stop, contending his complaints about the incident hurt their careers....

Court records indicate the officers chased Moore's Toyota truck about nine miles on Route 15 in Frederick County before they were able to block and stop him. When Moore still failed to heed their commands -- doctors later said he was slipping into a diabetic coma -- the deputies broke a window to his truck, doused him with pepper spray, beat him with a police baton and sent a police dog into the truck.

In addition to blaming the defendant for inconveniently denying the deputies cause to pepper spray and club him, by having a non-violent seizure, the lawsuit also complains that, as a diabetic, he had extra-sweet blood that the police dog found extra-tasty.

Repeat For Officer Accused Of 'Peeping Tom'

[Hawaii Kai] Once a female resident reported seeing a man naked from the waist down running away from the house....

Homeowner Ed Irvine came out the front door, armed with a .45 caliber handgun. He told police later that he caught Clissold crouching inside the gate. Sources said that Clissold identified himself as a police officer and claimed to be looking for a lost cat.

If this guy has to drop his pants to look for a missing cat, imagine the nightmare he puts the tollbooth and laundromat people through when he searches himself for spare change.
